13 out of the last 16 years there were at least 10 drownings a year and up to 19 deaths for all age groups.
About 50% of the deaths happen in swimming pools, 18% in rivers, and 16% in lakes and ponds.
Caucasians are 43% of all drowning deaths and Hispanics are about 33% .
67% of all drowning are over 20 years old and much of the remainder (around 18%) are under 4 years of age.
Drowning numbers are about equal for Hispanic as non-Hispanics in lakes, rivers, and canals. non-Hispanics are twice as likely to drown in pools as Hispanics.
Males are almost 5 times more likely to drown in the 20+ age group than females. Males are about twice as likely to drown in all the younger age groups.
